The shag harbor incident

You may not see massive UFO exhibits at your local science museum, but there’s no dearth of saucer stories infesting my email. Every day, I receive several reports of alien sightings, extraterrestrial plans for Earth, and agitated screeds about the reluctance of scientists to take the whole subject seriously. ~ Seth Shostak

THE SHAG HARBOR INCIDENT

The Shag Harbor Incident is one of the most famous UFO sightings in Canadian history. It occurred on October 4, 1967, in the small fishing village of Shag Harbor, Nova Scotia. The incident involved the sighting of a strange object that crashed into the harbor, leading to a large-scale search and rescue operation by Canadian authorities.

The incident began when several eyewitnesses reported seeing a strange object in the sky around 11:20 pm. The object was described as a bright, glowing light that was approximately 60 feet in diameter and was moving erratically through the air. Witnesses reported that the object appeared to be heading towards the harbor, and they heard a loud whistling sound as it approached.

As the object neared the harbor, witnesses reported that it suddenly descended and crashed into the water, producing a loud bang and a large spray of water. The object was reported to have sunk below the surface, leaving a trail of foam and debris in its wake.

Concerned that an aircraft may have crashed into the water, the Royal Canadian Mounted Police (RCMP) were notified and arrived at the scene within 15 minutes. They immediately began searching the area with boats and floodlights, but found no trace of any aircraft or wreckage.

The Canadian Coast Guard was also notified and dispatched several vessels to assist in the search. Over the next several days, a large-scale search and rescue operation was conducted, involving multiple government agencies and military personnel. Despite the extensive search effort, no trace of the object or any wreckage was ever found.

Shag Harbor has been one of the most discussed and investigated UFO incidents in history and is regarded as one of the more solid evidentiary cases because of the number and quality of witnesses.

There is a detailed YouTube video on the event and the incident has appeared in many UFO television specials, sometimes being referred to as Canada’s Roswell.

  9. Baltic Sea Anomaly – In 2011, a team of divers discovered a mysterious object at the bottom of the Baltic Sea that many believed to be a submerged UFO. The object was described as a circular disc-like shape with unusual markings and appeared to be made of a material that was not found naturally in the area.
  10. Puerto Rico Trench Incident – In 2013, a group of scientists working on a deep-sea exploration mission in the Puerto Rico Trench reported seeing a strange object that appeared to be moving quickly and erratically through the water.
